The Brief: The Bird House

The aim of the project is to create a creative intervention at Markeaton Street that communicates the project theme above in a provocative, amusing or visually exciting way.

Vision

Share the project title and part company for 48 hours. When you return, you should all hear each person’s ideas about how they feel the brief could be approached and resolved. Allow everyone to read or show their thoughts. Take a team vote to decide which idea to develop as a team.

First Meeting

Initial ideas included typography and provocation. Requiring a response to visual communication.

Themes to consider: Education Students Active vs Passive modes Quotes: Look (fucking) Forward Shouldn't you be listening? Use your fucking brain Listen and learn

Creative Intervention

Analyse Markeaton Campus with your team and identify hotspots, zones, wall space or common areas that you feel might provide the site for this subject as an installation or visual event.

These creative interventions should be considered to be models, projections, animations, mobiles, vinyl wall art, screen-based media, exhibitions or artefacts which can be placed, adhered or hung in these zones. Consider the cafeteria, ceilings, stairwells, pillars or walls. You might also consider toilet walls, stairs, glass and lifts as part of your work.

Team work

There are up to six people in your team. You may split your Markeaton Street Campus zone into six or more parts and each take a part to work on, one for each team member. You may nominate an illustrator and an animator to work together within your team to compliment and share skills. You may link a graphic designer and a moving image partner to work together and to share skills. You must decide how best to ultilise every member of your team so that they are productive and creative during this project.

There is four people in my team. I am the allocated team representative and Graphic Designer of the group alongside Sam Hart. Our Animator is Alisha Aietan and our Illustrator is Rebecca Asquith-Jepson. We did have Susanna but unfortunately for unforeseen circumstances she's no longer able to participate.

Second Meeting

I allocated roles for everyone to work on till our pitch as we looked into motivational quotes as part of a wellbeing programme in the university, moving away from our initial idea of provoking educational based quotes. The quote we first experimented with was "Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.". Rebecca worked on illustrating pigeons and statues, Sam and I worked on the typography and Alisha worked on the animation process of a bird.
