Sam Moore (Samantha Moore) is an Film Maker in 2D Animation, Director and Teacher, who previously had a career in Photography, she is a postgraduate student in Film and has experience varies creative mediums. She studied Fine Art and found herself practising Animation by testing oil and glass and using a lightbox.
Sam gave my course some advice which was to take all the opportunities you can get even if you get rejected and that we should apply to all competitions/opportunities, promoting ourselves, having fresh ideas, originality and gaining experience is crucial in the Creative Industry.
Sam's first animation project was when her skills were still in development, she started her first project at a £40,000 budget. She was also originally rejected by Chanel 4. 'Doubled Up' is one of her projects based on Mery Kelly, where she faced a lot of problems trying to get a budget together for the animation, however taking all opportunities she was offered she attended a convention and was told her animations were more like documentaries, they gave her a theme of such, a title, Documentary Animations.
Another animation she created was called An Eyeful of Sound which showed visuals created to interpret the stimuli and visuals people with synaesthesia see. Sam spoke to various people with this condition to ask them about their daily experiences and insights, as part of her research and case studies for the animation. For people that do not have this condition, it was a informative, like a documentary, and eye-opening piece as a viewer to experience. Overall, it was great meeting with Sam, even though she specialise in Animation, it was a great experience and interesting to see other forms of creative work.
